Since his debut in the late 90s, late rapper DMX is known as one of the great storytellers of rap. Teetering between the grittiness of street life and the poignancy of his faith, his music made a lasting cultural impact. Much of his musical journey hasn’t been told to the masses in depth…that is, until recently.

This past weekend, DMX’s longtime producer, manager and friend DJ Superior teamed up with Jonah Levine and Kevin McGill to present The Rise of Dark Man X, a visual presentation featuring the unreleased songs and demos of the Yonkers MC (who died in 2021), dating from 1987 through 1999. The show offered a unique look at X’s rise to stardom from the man who was by his side through it all.

Check out DJ Remedy’s interview with DJ Superior and Jonah Levine from the Broadcast Brunch during BET Weekend in the video above!
