Akon sat down with The Morning Hustle at the BET Media House 2024, but he wasn’t alone. He brought along his newest artist, also known as his wife, Amirror, the First Lady of Akon Music. The power couple was there to discuss Amirror’s latest project, “Reflections,” which has been making waves with an impressive 5 million streams on Spotify within the first 24 hours of its release.
Amirror shared insights into her creative process, revealing how her visit to Senegal profoundly influenced her music. Immersing herself in the rich culture and vibrant life of Africa provided her with fresh perspectives and a deep well of inspiration. “Senegal was a game-changer,” she said. “The music, the people, the colors—it all opened up a new dimension in my creativity.”
Akon chimed in, discussing the unique challenges his wife faces in the industry. “Watching Amirror transition into an artist has been incredible,” he said. “But it’s not easy for women in this business. There are hurdles and biases that men just don’t encounter.” He also humorously noted the newfound attention Amirror receives, even from his own friends. “I have to keep an eye on my buddies sliding into her DMs now that she’s an artist,” he joked, although his pride in her accomplishments was evident.

Despite the challenges, Amirror is determined to be taken seriously as an artist in her own right. “Yes, I’m pretty, and yes, I’m Akon’s wife,” she acknowledged. “But don’t judge a book by its cover. This album is a reflection of all the hard work and passion I’ve poured into it.”
Akon echoed her sentiments, emphasizing her dedication. “She’s proven herself,” he said. “Amirror has really taken the time to develop her craft and become the artist she is today.”
